Animal Research Safety Compliance Program
The institution is required to maintain an occupational health and safety program. At Northwestern University, Research Safety assesses the risk of working with hazardous chemical, biological, and radioactive compounds while reviewing Animal Study Protocol (ASP) submissions.
This program aims to create a helpful resource for all NU researchers whose work with animals contains elements that fall under the Research Safety oversight.
The program assists researchers with animal-related safety questions and training. If you have questions, or you need assistance, use animalresearchsafety@northwestern.edu email.
Research Safety continuously partners with the IACUC, the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), and the Center for Comparative Medicine (CCM) to ensure the safety of staff working in animal research.
