Eyelation Prescription Safety Eyewear
Research Safety offers a selection of safety eyewear that can be made with your prescription at a discounted rate through the Eyelation program. This program makes it easier and more affordable to get prescription safety glasses that meet your laboratory safety needs.
How the Discount Works
The discount covers up to 90% of the base cost of frames and lenses for both single and multi-focal prescriptions. There are a range of upgrades (including digital lenses, progressive bi-focal, tinting and scratch resistance), that can be added onto your order at full cost.
The Eyelation discount is available once every two years. You may purchase eyewear more frequently if needed. However, purchases made before the two-year period has passed will receive a smaller discount.
Requesting an Eyelation Profile
Please reach out to Johanna Fisher (Chicago Campus) or Iwona Spath (Evanston Campus).
If you are new to the program, provide the following to have your Eyelation profile created:
- Full name (including middle initial, if applicable)
- Employee ID number
- Northwestern email address
- University Group (Research/Lab Member or Facilities/Maintenance)
If you have been with Northwestern for more than six years, you may already have an Eyelation profile. If you have not ordered prescription safety eyewear through this program or cannot remember your username or password, we can help reset it.
What You Need to Make a Purchase
Before placing your order, you will need the following:
- An Updated Prescription: If you are due for an eye exam or expect your prescription to change soon, it is recommended that you wait until you have your new prescription before ordering. This will help you get the most out of your two-year discount.
- A Clear Photo: You will need to provide a clear photo of yourself without glasses standing against a blank wall, similar to a passport photo. The photo will be provided to the optometrists, who will use it to take measurements needed to make your prescription lenses.
- A Payment Method: Eyelation accepts major credit and debit cards. Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Spending Account (HSA) cards may also work. Check with your FSA or HSA provider if you are unsure whether your purchase is an eligible expense. You may also want to check with your lab to see whether prescription safety eyewear purchased through Eyelation is eligible for reimbursement.
Try on Frames Before You Buy
While we cannot guarantee that a specific frame will be available when you place your order, you can try sample frames before making your selection.
Both the Evanston and Chicago Research Safety Offices have a selection of sample frames available to try.
